 Career Day Event

Nearly 3,000 high school students cover the Shelby County Fairgrounds for the Annual Kentucky Construction Career Choice Council (K4C) Career Days event, a two-day, hands-on career fair. The construction industry recognizes the impact our youth will soon have on the future of the industry. A proven way to entice the minds of the next generation is to provide an environment that exposes them to multiple trades within the industry. At the career fair, students had an opportunity to weld, assist with building a brick wall, craft a toolbox, participate in a nail driving contest, operate a backhoe, stop water leaks — and that’s just to name a few. All of this would not have been possible without the 70-plus exhibitors who showed up, ready to share their knowledge and experience.

“There are a lot of well-paying careers in the skilled trades that students don’t get exposed to in the classroom. This event has the opportunity to make an impact not only in the lives of students, but also in an industry that very much needs them. It’s a hands-on way for them to connect.”
